Hedge Fund Website Launch: Prudent Bear Alternative Investment
David W. Tice & Associate, LLC is a Registered Investment Advisor firm which specializes in Prudent Bear mutual funds as well as other privately offered hedge funds. The company website, prudentbear.com is well establish in its field, but with the introduction of five new hedge funds, the site needed to be extended in order to comply with the regulatory restrictions involved with Hedge Fund websites.
Before our work began, we had a components for multiple funds into one framework. However, due to the unique aspects of this scenario (discussed later) we had to implement a unique solution.
There were several unique aspects to this project:
- Five Hedge Funds to manage
- Two Offshore funds, three onshore.
- Two funds available for Qualified Clients (3c7 Investors) and three funds for Accredited Investors (3c1 investors)
Design:
The focus of these Hedge Funds is Natural Resources and this initial direction gave our design team plenty of inspiration to create a general site design, and then topical designs for each of the individual products . The site design was based on “earthy colors”, and the individual product pages used custom designs and graphics inspired from the type of fund. This structure enabled us to focus on the design aspects of the products while staying within the boundaries of the general site design.

As the project moved forward we focused our attention on two major issues that differentiated the hedge fund products, and built two designs based on this.
Implementation: Restricted Access
Due to the regulatory issues with the two of the funds only available to Qualified Clients, we had to modify our sign up and client approval process to enable these permissions into account. We accomplished this using our built in user-group system. When the prospective investor signs up, they include the needed information into the sign up form. Once the client completes the application process the manager can assign a specific level of membership.
The system will then grant access to the sections which are available based on the user group.
Implementation: Navigation
Site Navigation also posed interesting challenges. We opted for a double landing page approach this leads investors based on their location and group to the hedge fund product that is most suited for them.

Once the investor arrives at the fund product page, they make use of the standard Hedge Fund websites navigation features.
The website is currently live and the HedgeCo Website team is completing the final stages of integrating the new Hedge Fund website into the design of Prudentbear.com
